South Africa’s biggest beer festival just got bigger for 2015! Now housed in a 4000 seater Bavarian Brauhaus adorned with authentic décor from the Motherland, Bierfest Johannesburg on the weekends of 9-11 October and 16-18 October 2015 at the Montecasino.

The Bierfest, which has grown exponentially since its inception, has, not surprisingly, beer as a central theme. Sponsored by South African Breweries, this year the brewmeisters have three beers on offer, modelled on their German equivalents. They are the Munich Dunkel, the Krystal Weiss and the Royal Bavaria, each bringing their own flavour and texture to your bench.

While beer is certainly important, it is by no means the be all and end all of the festival. In fact, if you’re feeling generous, one could go so far as to call it a cultural festival, celebrating all things German/Bavarian.

Expect the tubthumping tuba, courtesy of the Oompah band, to blow your blues away as you step up to test your strength and skill against an array of traditional Oktoberfest challenges, including beer pong and ‘best dressed’ competitions.

Weaving their way between benches and beer-fuelled bodies will be a bevy of waitresses kitted out in Bavarian barmaid outfits, complete with puffy sleeves and bodices. When it comes time to rehydrate and get some food, the same barmaids-cum-waitresses will bring you German dishes from a menu featuring Deutsch Fleischsalat (meat salad), Bratwurst and Bockwurst (sausages) and chips, and rotkohl(red cabbage) among other foreign delights.

A nice way to experience Bierfest is to book a table but if you want a table, it’s advisable to book in groups of 6 or 12.
